Perth’s first Smart Freeway is now open, improving motorist's driving experience northbound on the Kwinana Freeway.
Kwinana Freeway northbound, from Roe Highway to the Narrows Bridge, previously experienced severe congestion and stop-start conditions. Traditional widening wasn’t possible in this constrained area, so Main Roads WA created Perth’s first Smart Freeway by converting the emergency lane into an additional traffic lane. By installing smart technologies that help their staff manage traffic on the freeway and entry ramps, Main Roads WA has been able to reduce congestion, increase safety and improve travel times. In this webinar, Tony Earl, Executive Director Network Operations and Matthew Prindiville, Congestion Program Manager will provide an overview of the project and the operational considerations given to maximise performance, the technologies chosen, and transitioning it all to operations.
This webinar will also feature an update on ITS Australia’s activities and opportunities from Chief Executive, Susan Harris.
