To begin the year, ITS Australia is pleased to publish our Industry Vision for Safe Sustainable Transport Through Technology. This important new publication outlines key issues and opportunities that we, as the peak national body for ITS in Australia, believe can advance transport technology and improve outcomes for all Australians.

In the paper, we call for enhanced federal government leadership, increased coordination between the federal and state/territory governments and stronger partnerships with industry. Priority initiatives that require enhanced government support include:

  • Building trusted national data sets for high-impact use cases, such as speed limits and road works.
  • Deploying long-range communications for road safety data.
  • Agreeing on first-priority operational domains for automated vehicles, focusing on public transport and freight.
  • Reducing emissions by optimising existing transport assets.
