Who we are
ITS Australia NextGens is a group dedicated to young and early-career transport professionals established and supported by ITS Australia in January 2021. The ITS Australia NextGens aim to connect and provide opportunities for young professionals by promoting knowledge sharing and networking between future leaders and contributors to the ITS space.
Our mission
- To spearhead the profile and value of young professionals in the ITS industry
- To provide a united voice as an advocate for the interests of young professionals
- Nurture, inspire, and develop leaders and contributors to the ITS space
Our structure
- NextGens Network: We are a community of like-minded individuals eager to step up. As early career transport professionals, we are united by a mission to grow and support each other through the NextGens community and ITS Australia.
- NextGens Committee: The NextGens committee meets regularly to set the strategic direction of NextGens, as well as to help organise events and initiatives for the benefit of the NextGens network.
- NextGens Co-Chairs: The Committee elects Co-Chairs who represent NextGens through ITS Australia’s Membership Committee and Board. The Co-Chairs work with committee members to organise NextGens events and activities.
Committee

Harrison Kraus (Co-Chair, Sydney)
Product Manager / BRAUMS
Harrison is a mechanical design engineer and product manager for traffic signals hardware at BRAUMS. He enjoys designing and developing product solutions that identify and tackle problematic areas within the ITS industry. Harrison is passionate about adapting traffic signal equipment to support the evolution of Vehicle to Everything (V2X) communication within the ITS industry.


Kalan Ralph (Co-Chair Perth)
Intelligent Transport Systems Officer / Main Roads Western Australia
Kalan is an ITS Graduate at Main Roads Western Australia and works in the Intelligent Transport Systems team. He has experience managing ITS Operations, supporting the ITS Master Plan 2022-2030 planning document, and contributing to major infrastructure projects. Kalan is passionate about roadside device management, system integrations and improvements, and process automation.


Daniel Verstraten (Co-Chair, Brisbane)
ITS Engineer / Arup
Daniel is an ITS Engineer at Arup, working in the Queensland based Electrical and Connected Infrastructure team. He has experience delivering ITS designs on a variety of projects, ranging from implementing technologies for improving transport resilience in rural communities, all the way to detailed designs for large scale infrastructure projects such as managed motorways and inner-city busways. Daniels has a passion for systems and technologies and keen eye for detail, which drives his design work in providing optimised ITS solutions for key clients in the transport industry.


Amirtha Chidambara Raj (Committee Member, Adelaide)
Engineer, New Mobility / Arcadis
Amirtha is a civil engineer in the ITS team at Arcadis. She enjoys working with her colleagues to solve complex engineering problems to provide a solution that is best for the community it would be implemented in.
She is passionate about encouraging more women to get into and stay in STEM fields, and facilitating networking opportunities among younger people in the ITS industry.


Timothy Hudson (Committee Member, Sydney)
ITS Domain Specialist / Transurban
Timothy is an ITS Engineer at Transurban, working with the ITS Strategy & Planning Team. He has a strong passion for solving transport-related problems, having previously worked with notable organisations like CSIRO’s Data61, the Australian Centre for Field Robotics, and iMOVE CRC. At Transurban, Timothy's work has a direct focus on innovation projects and building future-oriented technologies. His expertise lies in system design and software development, particularly for systems that utilise AI and computer vision. Timothy’s main interests lie in Smart Infrastructure and C‑ITS, especially in understanding how these technologies can create better transport solutions.


Alexander Humphrey (Committee Member, Sydney)
ITS Engineer / Transurban
Alex works as an ITS Engineer for Transurban with experience on projects ranging from control systems to roadside technologies. He has also been involved in a number of innovations initiatives aimed at bringing new technologies to motorway operations.


Abbass Kak (Committee Member, Melbourne)
Graduate Transportation Engineer / Stantec
Hi, I'm Abbass, a Transport Engineer at Stantec in Melbourne. I graduated in civil engineering from Monash University. After a brief period with the local government at Mornington Peninsula Shire, I joined Stantec. Here, I primarily focus on modeling projects at the planning stage. I'm keen on exploring the latest technologies that can enhance our transport network.


Sreehari Kandamblayil Prakash (Committee Member, Perth)
ITS/Electrical Engineer / GHD
Sreehari is a dedicated ITS/Electrical Engineer at GHD with a wide range of experience in areas such as Renewable Energy Systems, Electrical Systems on roads, Intelligent Transport Systems, and Roadway Lighting Designs. He has demonstrated his project management skills through his involvement in Project Scope documentation and Estimation, Project Delivery Management, Project Engineering, and Maintenance management. His problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail, combined with his proactive communication, result in expert designs for key clients in the transport industry.


Alex Moody (Committee Member, Sydney)
Technical Sales Engineer / Aldridge Traffic Controllers and Yunex Traffic
Alex joined Yunex Traffic (then Siemens) as an apprentice Traffic Signal Engineer in the UK designing traffic signal intersections and personality configurations. He is proud to be a member of the ATC / Yunex Traffic team here in Australia, offering cutting edge traffic signal controllers and software around the world. Alex has a strong passion for developing sustainable traffic solutions as well as continuing to be involved in the most advanced traffic signal efficiency and safety advancements.


Alex Sabohanian (Committee Member, Adelaide)
Senior Planning Engineer / SA Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT)
Alex is a Senior Planning Engineer at DIT with over 11 years of experience in transport engineering, specializing in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), traffic modeling, and data analysis. Holding a Master’s in Transport Engineering and a MicroMaster in Data Science, Alex has a strong foundation in utilising data to enhance transport system operations.
He is highly experienced in SCATS, traffic signalization, and train signaling, contributing to high-profile projects such as the Automatic Train Protection System upgrade on the Seaford Line and the electrification of the Gawler Train Line. Alex is passionate about integrating advanced technologies and big data to improve sustainable transport, traffic flow, safety, and overall transport system resilience. His expertise in data-driven decision-making positions him as a leader in creating sustainable, future-ready transport networks.


Rudy Sagar (Committee Member, Sydney)
ITS Engineer / Aurecon
Rudy is an ITS Engineer in the Roads Team at Aurecon Sydney. He has previously worked in Transport for NSW, Sydney Trains, Sydney Metro before starting at Aurecon. He has developed a keen technical mindset delivering complex smart motorways and technologies for state-significant road infrastructure projects across NSW. Continuously growing, he is eager to learn from the Industry, practising members and the extended community.


Nikhil Subramanya Sharma (Committee Member, Melbourne)
ITS Operations Engineer / Transurban
Nikhil is an ITS Operations Engineer at Transurban, specifically working in Citylink, Melbourne. A proud graduate of RMIT University, Nikhil earned a Master’s in Electronics Engineering in 2021. His academic journey included a research in utilizing Blockchain within the V2X and ITS domain.
At Transurban, Nikhil has supported major projects that has created value for the commuters. His dedication to the ITS domain stems from a genuine enthusiasm for integrating cutting edge technologies into a cohesive and efficient system.

Young Professional Award
The ITS Australia National Awards are a celebration of excellence in the Australian Intelligent Transport Systems industry.
The Young Professional Award recognises and encourages the passion and positive contribution an individual has made and is likely to make to the Australian transport technology industry as demonstrated through their early professional life. This award provides sponsorship for the recipient to attend the ITS Australia Summit - Australia's leading transport and technology event. Certificates of Achievement are also awarded to all finalists.
