Building standardization across intelligent transport technologies
ITS Australia and our members are actively involved in the development of standards to support the ITS community, both internationally and within Australia.
International Standards
ISO / TC 204 – Intelligent Transport Systems
ISO / TC 204 works to establish the standardization of information, communication and control systems in the field of urban and rural surface transportation, including intermodal and multi-modal aspects thereof, traveller information, traffic management, public transport, commercial transport, emergency services and commercial services in the intelligent transport systems (ITS) field.
It excludes In-vehicle transport information and control systems covered by ISO / TC 22.
ISO / TC 204 is responsible for the overall system aspects and infrastructure aspects of intelligent transport systems (ITS), as well as the coordination of the overall ISO work programme in this field including the schedule for standards development, taking into account the work of existing international standardization bodies.
ISO / TC 204 commenced in 1992 with Dr Max Lay being the first Australian Head of Delegation. Dr Max Lay’s extensive contribution to ITS was recognised with is award as the inaugural member of the ITS Australia Lifetime Achievement Award.
