National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) and Motorola Situational Alerts
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR’s) Situational Alerts which has been developed in partnership with Motorola, brings together multiple technologies and data platforms to apply sophisticated predictive analytics in real-time to notify Safety and Compliance Officers of heavy vehicles in their vicinity that pose a high safety and compliance risk.
Utilising the NHVR’s advanced Artificial Intelligence-driven ANPR cameras, sophisticated Road Monitoring tool – which comprises multiple mathematically derived risk engines, and the NHVR’s Motorola Regulatory Compliance Mobile Solution, the NHVR has the ability to disrupt high-risk journeys to improve road safety outcomes for all road users. RCMS was introduced in 2019 and is the NHVR’s core roadside data tool.
The advanced nature of the underlying risk engines and their continual refinement through machine learning processes means that the Situational Alerts are under constant refinement to ensure the Situational Alerts are always based on the most relevant and up to date information.
Analysis of the efficacy of the Situational Alerts has found that intercepts associated to them have a non-compliance rate of 76% which is significantly higher than the non-compliance rate seen when this technology is not in use. This not only reduces the number of non-complaint heavy vehicles on the road, it also allows for complaint vehicles to continue their journey without disruption helping to improve industry productivity.
The Situational Alert program is highly scalable and transferrable with a significant forward work program committed to the continual improvement of the product through the introduction of new datasets, data speed performance enhancements and additional end-user experience enhancements such as the integration of images of the high-risk vehicle.
