Secure Bicycle Parking Is Now Possible

ITS Australia

Working in the street and park furniture industry for over 15 years as co-owner of Newcastle Street Furniture and observing a gap in the market for secure bicycle and scooter parking, Renee Tuxford established emicro in Australia to provide a product that delivers the security wanted.

“We see this as an extension of the park and street furniture we already manufacture and install - it is all infrastructure that is part of communal living” Renee siad.

"Each bicycle dock has a unique metal arm that secures the bicycle through the wheel and frame via an app and also has an e-charging facility. Used in over 20 countries throughout Europe and the US and Canada, there have been zero thefts to date since 2013. The product is produced in Estonia under the name of Bikeep and it is planned that the docks will be manufactured in Australia in the future."

An installation of a 10 bicycle docking stations at the University of New South Wales is in operation with 100% usage and no thefts to date. Next in line is an installation at Manly Wharf in conjunction with Northern Beaches Council, where commuters will be able to safely dock their bikes before boarding a ferry.

Just recently, a new Sydney CBD residential tower has had a bicycle docking system specified into the design to provide sought-after bicycle security for residents.

The changing face of commuting, where people can ride to a transport hub before boarding public transport, will help reduce car emissions in the future and will increase the demand for secure bicycle and scooter infrastructure.

Emicro has secured a reseller in WA, a franchisee in Victoria and another docking station is to be installed in Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast.

With bicycle sales predicted by Deloitte to be in the order of 135 million in 2023, the gold standard of zero theft bicycle parking and charging is here in Australia with emicro.
