Forging Stronger Partnerships at the Asia Pacific Forum 2024

/>

As part of our international engagement activities, ITS Australia has enjoyed a productive week in Jakarta at the 19th Asia Pacific Forum – engaging with industry leaders from across the region. Our international activities are designed to showcase our members to new audiences and forge business partnerships.

The week's itinerary began with a visit to Australia’s Embassy in Jakarta, where officials were briefed on Australia’s ITS capabilities ahead of their engagement with the region at a Ministerial Roundtable held prior to the official opening of the Asia Pacific Forum. Australia's Deputy Head of Mission to Indonesia, Gita Kamath represented Australia at the roundtable where spoke to the innovation of Australia's ITS industry as well as the KIAT partnership between the two countries that leverages Australian expertise to support the deployment of quality infrastructure in Indonesia .

President Silje Troseth and International Ambassador Dean Zabrieszach were our official representatives at an ITS Asia Pacific Board of Directors meeting. ITS associations from across the region are represented on the board and work collaboratively to plan international engagement activities with other parts of the world, mainly Europe and North America. The meeting provided updates on the region's participation in upcoming activities, including the World Congress in Dubai this September and next year’s Asia Pacific Forum, which will take place in Suwon, Korea. The event was also a significant opportunity to discuss ITS Australia’s bid to host the 2029 World Congress in Brisbane 2029.

On the Forum's opening day, President Silje Troseth joined ITS Indonesia President William P. Sabandar in signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organisations. The signing of the MoU signified a commitment to enhance bilateral relations and develop further cooperation between ITS Indonesia and ITS Australia on issues such as ITS research, planning, and deployment in the two countries. The MoU also focused on facilitating professional exchanges - allowing ITS professionals from both countries to visit and learn from each others key activities, as well as promoting cooperation for collaborative research, educational initiatives, and commercial opportunities.

Over two and a half days, we also hosted an ITS Australia Pavilion, showcasing our diverse program of activities across events, engagement, policy, and advocacy to a wide range of international attendees. We also delivered a VIP Networking event, which brought together a strong cohort of ITS Australia members with ITS Asia Pacific leaders, creating a fertile ground for potential collaborations. Again, we were pleased to be able to engage with Australian government representatives at this important event, with Rod Commerford, Trade and Investment Commissioner for Austrade in Jakarta speaking to the international audience, highlighting the strong business ties for Australia in the region and great opportunities for further collaboration.

We will continue our international engagement activities in Dubai in September at the 30th ITS World Congress. We encourage members to collaborate with us and we invite you to get in touch if you are attending, or thinking about attending to leverage our networks to promote your organisation to the global ITS community.
