Asia Pacific leaders come together at Summit 2024

/>

Australia’s commitment to international collaboration will continue at next month’s ITS Australia Summit 2024, with representatives from all eleven ITS Asia Pacific member associations to participate in the flagship event at Sydney’s International Convention Centre from 13 to 15 August.

Summit 2024 will explore approaches to safe, sustainable and inclusive transport that can enhance vibrant communities by leveraging the ever-expanding capabilities of technology.

The international engagement at this year’s event follows the very successful ITS Global Summit in 2023 and the strong dialogue between regional leaders at the Asia Pacific Summit in Jakarta in March.

The leaders from Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand - representing all current members of ITS Asia Pacific - will participate in Australia’s largest annual transport technology event.

“The participation of all members of ITS Asia Pacific at Summit 2024 sends a powerful signal that our region is united in our ambition to solve many of the global transport challenges through the rollout of intelligent, technology-based solutions,” says Susan Harris, Chief Executive of ITS Australia.

“We know that the challenges of delivering safer, more sustainable, and productive transport systems are universal, and the opportunity to gather with leaders from the Asia Pacific region at ITS Summit 2024 allows us to collaborate and share learnings from pilots, projects, and programs being developed locally.”

As part of a packed three-day agenda, Asia Pacific leaders will convene for an International ITS Leaders Forum, where participants will delve into the shared transport challenges faced across the Asia Pacific region and highlight the developing solutions happening at a country level that have potential for expansion across the region and globe.

Dr William Sabandar, President of ITS Indonesia, reflected on the significance of the gathering as an opportunity to progress conversations from this year’s Asia Pacific Forum.

“Asia Pacific leaders demonstrated a shared commitment to achieving sustainable and intelligent transportation solutions by adopting the Jakarta Declaration at the conclusion of May’s Asia Pacific Forum in Indonesia,” says Dr Sabandar.

“The ITS Australia Summit is recognised globally as a leading ITS forum and presents the perfect opportunity for the Asia-Pacific leaders to re-connect on issues canvassed in Jakarta such as regional connectivity and inclusive infrastructure and how to tailor solutions to the unique needs of each country.”

Over three days and more than 40 sessions, Summit 2024 delegates will engage with a diverse program developed by an impressive advisory committee of leaders from industry, government, and academia, setting the scene for rich conversations on Australia’s ITS future.

Six key themes drive the Plenary and Panel sessions, Special Interest Sessions, Breakouts, and Workshops and build upon issues that have been deeply interrogated at industry events over the last 12 months.

The key themes are Smart Infrastructure and Data Ecosystems, Sustainable and Inclusive Transport, Electric, Connected, Automated Transport, Future Mobility, Governance Frameworks, and Freight and Services.
