Jack Opiola
Program Manager, National Mileage Based User Fee Program / U.S. Department of Transport
I am dedicated to transforming Highway/Motorway Transportation into a sustainable funding model through the "user pays " policy and road charging by distance combined with value added services, also called Mobility as a Service. It is a 50-50 proposition - 50% technology solutions to integrate, to interoperate the services we desire to use, and 50% payment and pricing to manage demand and provide a common account methodology to simplify our mobile lifestyle. I see the synergistic fit of CAV and ITS through Road Charging as the creation of a rational funding mechanism to sustain transport funding into the future, as well as the technological applications to integrate seamless transport for mobility from A to B and beyond.
I bring over three decades of experience as a program/project manager, expert consultant, and senior policy advisor to local, state, national and international transportation agencies and private clients. Advanced technology and communications are needed to integrate mobility seamlessly with value-added Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) applications. This combination is dynamically using mobility as a service and utility through shared applications. This integrated and interoperable world is necessary to break down the individual stove pipe existing in our transportation policy and create a brave new world and model lifestyle for mobility. My past and current global experience provide the knowledge and expertise to realize and implement this conceptual transition.
