WSP releases COVID-19 & Public Transport white paper

ITS Australia

/>

Last week, ITS Australia member WSP released its white paper: COVID-19 & Public Transport: From Response to Recovery. Developed for the Australian context, this white paper builds on WSP's earlier work examining the impact of the pandemic on transit operators in North America, and their responses, with a focus on modifications to services and cleaning procedures. These responses are very much applicable to Australian cities and others around the globe, as we implement measures to control the spread of COVID-19.

The white paper will help inform discussions and guide decisions on the role and operation of public transport to support the recovery of Australian cities once isolation and physical distancing measures can be progressively relaxed. By leveraging the collective work of their teams around the world WSP has created a framework for assessing the capacity of different modes of public transport under various recovery scenarios. This will help to ensure that public transport remains a critical part of the transport system, supporting successful cities and thriving places.
