The Victorian Department of Transport has released a Request for Information (RFI) to engage with suppliers locally and internationally. This RFI is an early step in DoT’s planning process, intended to improve DoT’s understanding of the market and the range of potential offerings for advanced traffic management systems (ATMS).

DoT currently uses an ATMS for Managed Motorways as well as some operations across the state road network, alongside other systems such as for traffic signal management and travel time analysis.

DoT started implementing the current generation of Managed Motorway tools and the associated control systems between 2007 and 2010. After strong success in the initial implementation on the M1 corridor, the Victorian Managed Motorways network has since been expanded to cover more than 150km of urban motorways.

Australian expertise on Managed Motorways is respected internationally, with DoT staff actively supporting a recent six-month ramp metering trial on the I-25 Motorway in Denver, Colorado. Suppliers from across the Australian ITS sector have played important roles in helping the success of Managed Motorways in Australia to date.
