Gold Coast Cooperative Corridor Launch Signals a Major Step Forward in Australia’s Intelligent Transport Future

Gold Coast, Queensland, 19 November 2025 - The Gold Coast Cooperative Corridor (GC3) has been officially launched as a landmark collaboration between Lexus Australia, the City of Gold Coast, and the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads - marking a significant milestone in advancing connected and automated vehicle (CAV) technologies in Australia.

The initiative announced this morning at the ITS Australia Summit opening celebrations, will accelerate the deployment and real-world testing of cooperative and intelligent transport systems (C-ITS), supporting safer, cleaner, and more efficient mobility networks in the lead-up to the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.

A cooperative corridor is a connected stretch of transport infrastructure equipped with smart technologies that enable real-time communication between vehicles, roadside systems, and traffic management networks. This digital connectivity underpins next-generation mobility, helping reduce congestion, prevent collisions, and optimise the performance of the entire road ecosystem.

Stage 1: Building the Connected City

In its first phase, GC3 will establish a living testbed across key Gold Coast intersections, deploying C-ITS-enabled roadside units, smart signal controllers, and AI-driven analytics platforms. 

These innovations will demonstrate how data integration, connectivity, and automation can deliver tangible safety and efficiency benefits. The outcomes will inform evidence-based policy, guide infrastructure investment, and provide best-practice frameworks for future CAV deployments across Australia.

The launch of GC3 highlights how collaboration between industry, government, and research can accelerate the development of practical, scalable ITS solutions.
