ITS Australia and iMOVE Australia to celebrate a decade of transport innovation

Melbourne, Australia - 27 July 2026: ITS Australia and iMOVE Australia will partner to celebrate a decade of collaboration and investment in Australian transport research and innovation at the ITS Australia Global Summit 2026.

This year’s summit will feature many of the key iMOVE outcomes since 2017 through R&D presentations, a showcase at the iMOVE lounge, a dedicated panel session with iMOVE partners from around Australia, and a joint celebration / welcome reception on the first day of the event.

As Australia's national centre for transport and mobility research and development and official R&D Partner for the 2026 Global Summit, iMOVE has brought together industry, government and universities to solve real-world transport challenges through collaborative research. Over the past decade, it has supported 258 collaborative R&D projects through a consortium of 44 industry, government and research partners, helping accelerate the development and adoption of transport technologies across Australia.

ITS Australia has been an active participant in the iMOVE Cooperative Research Centre, contributing to research that has informed policy, accelerated technology adoption and strengthened Australia's intelligent transport systems sector.

ITS Australia Chief Executive Officer Susan Harris said the reception provides an opportunity for the industry to acknowledge iMOVE's lasting impact.

‘We’re really proud to have played a part in helping iMOVE advance research in areas including road user charging, freight, connected and automated vehicles, data, sustainability and mobility, creating lasting benefits for Australia's transport network,’ said Ms Harris. 

‘As iMOVE approaches the conclusion of its program, we're proud to help celebrate its remarkable contribution to Australia’s transport technology industry and the tireless work the team has done to help shape the future of transport.

iMOVE Managing Director Ian Christensen said partnership and collaboration has been at the heart of the organisation's success.

‘We are very proud of the achievements of our partners since 2017,’ said Mr Christensen. 

‘We have grown from 44 partners to more than 70, and the levels of activity and outputs delivered have been extraordinary: 317 projects to date and a projected R&D spend of over $100 million from an original $70 million. This reflects the dedication and commitment of organisations Australia-wide to work together, find solutions to challenges, and advance the sector for the benefit of all.

‘ITS Australia has been an important partner and collaborator since the very beginning and it is fitting that we should join forces to celebrate the outcomes of the last ten years.’

The iMOVE journey will be on display at the iMOVE lounge throughout the three days, with opportunities to meet some of the staff, partners and experts who have played key roles in the activities of the Centre. 

The ITS Australia Global Summit will be held in Melbourne from 22–24 September 2026, bringing together government, industry, researchers and technology leaders from around the world to explore the future of intelligent transport.
