ITS Asia Pacific Forum 2020 Launches Global Competition Program

ITS Australia

/>

With this year’s 17th ITS Asia Pacific Forum only a few months away, Australia’s transport technology industries are gearing up for the week-long event. The ITS Asia Pacific Forum, held from May 25-28 in Brisbane, will showcase the most innovative transport technologies from across the APAC region, and will feature leading speakers from around the globe. This week the ITS Asia Pacific Forum launched its competition program, featuring some truly exciting opportunities for Australian transport technology students and early-career professionals.

Global Innovation Competition

The Global Innovation Competition is a start-up competition for emerging technologies and solutions that create a safer, greener, and smarter mobility system. The 2020 competition is hosted by ITS America, ERTICO, and ITS Asia-Pacific.

Three semi-final competitions are being held globally; one in each region - Europe, Asia-Pacific, and North America. Two winners will be selected from each region; and those winners will be eligible to travel to the 2020 ITS World Congress in Los Angeles. At the ITS World Congress regional winners will have the opportunity to showcase their solution on a global stage and compete to be one of the two grand prize winners.

To compete in the Asia Pacific regional competition, start-ups are invited to submit an entry to their local ITS Association prior to submission close on March 31. Each ITS Asia Pacific Association will select one nomination each for the Regional Final. The Regional Final will be held at the 17th ITS Asia Pacific Forum in May 2020.

At the Regional Final judges will select two finalists for the Global Final in Los Angeles. Each finalist will receive $5,000 USD, courtesy of ITS America and the ITS World Congress in Los Angeles, towards their travel and participation in the Global final at the ITS World Congress.

Emerging Leaders Program – Global Challenge

Designed for College and University students of various disciplines who hold an interest in mobility and technology, the Emerging Leaders Program – Global Challenge recruits teams of students from around the world to solve real-world mobility challenges.

Entrants in this year’s Global Challenge are asked: “Cities around the world must find innovative ways to improve mobility that mitigates congestion while addressing vulnerable users (elderly, pedestrians, disabled, cyclists, etc.). Design an inclusive mobility model for an urban environment in your home or university town.”

Like the Global Innovation Competition, there will be three regional semi-final competitions held in Europe, Asia-Pacific, and North America. There will be one winning team selected from each region; and those winners will travel to the 2020 ITS World Congress in Los Angeles to compete in the World Championship Olympic Challenge at the ITS World Congress in October.

Asia-Pacific Emerging Leaders teams are invited to submit an entry to their local ITS Association prior to submission close on March 31. Each ITS Asia Pacific Association will select one nomination each for the Regional Final. ITS Asia Pacific is hosting the Regional Final at the 17th ITS Asia Pacific Forum in May 2020.
